ShipdeHop takes zero platform commission, now and always. But the amount a traveller receives is not automatically the amount left after the parcel. Calculate the net contribution by subtracting only the extra costs caused by accepting that parcel: added fuel or fare, added toll, parking, packing, pickup and drop-off expenses. Do not charge the parcel for the full cost of a journey you were already taking.
Zero commission is easy to understand. ShipdeHop does not take a cut from the agreed parcel contribution. The harder question is what the traveller actually keeps after carrying the parcel.
A parcel can add a 6 km detour, paid parking, a second toll crossing, packing material or an auto ride to a handoff point. Or it may fit into a journey with no meaningful added expense. Those are different arrangements. Calling both of them “₹___ earned” hides the decision that matters.
My rule is direct: calculate the parcel’s added cost, not the entire journey cost. Then decide whether the remaining contribution is worth the extra time and responsibility. If the answer is no, decline or revise the arrangement before collecting the parcel.
Start with the meaning of zero commission
ShipdeHop takes zero platform commission, now and always. If the sender and traveller agree on a parcel contribution, ShipdeHop does not remove a percentage from it. That is the platform rule.
It does not mean every connected cost becomes zero. The traveller may still pay for fuel, public transport, tolls, parking or a handoff detour. The sender may still pay for suitable packaging. The people involved need to decide which parcel-caused expenses are included in the agreed contribution and which are separate.
Use the Carry service page to begin with an existing journey. The journey comes first. The parcel should fit the route, available space, timing and the traveller’s willingness to take responsibility. It should not quietly turn an existing trip into an on-demand delivery job.
Separate existing journey costs from added parcel costs
Suppose you are already driving from Bengaluru to Mysuru. You would have bought fuel and passed through the normal route with or without the parcel. Those baseline journey costs do not suddenly become parcel expenses. Charging the sender for the full journey would confuse cost sharing with selling the whole trip.
Now suppose collecting the parcel adds a detour, forces you to use a different toll road, requires paid parking or adds a local ride after you arrive. Those are incremental costs. They exist because you accepted the parcel. They belong in the worksheet.
The clean test is: “Would I pay this amount if I travelled without the parcel?” If yes, it is usually a baseline journey cost. If no, it is a parcel-caused cost. If only part of the amount is added, count only that added part.
| Cost line | Baseline journey cost | Parcel-caused cost | Put in parcel worksheet? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fuel for the planned intercity route | You would use it anyway | None unless the parcel changes the route or load materially | Only the added amount |
| Pickup detour | Not part of the original route | Extra kilometres or local fare | Yes |
| Normal route toll | You would cross it anyway | No added toll | No |
| Extra toll from revised route | Not otherwise payable | Caused by parcel pickup or drop | Yes |
| Parking at handoff | No parking without the parcel | Handoff-specific parking | Yes |
| Packing or protective material | Not a travel cost | Needed for this parcel | Assign clearly to sender or traveller |
| Traveller’s normal meal or personal stop | Personal journey expense | Not caused by parcel | No |
Use the contribution-after-expenses worksheet
Write the agreed contribution at the top. Then list only confirmed added expenses. Net contribution equals agreed contribution minus added fuel or fare, added toll, parking, traveller-paid packing, pickup expense and drop-off expense.
Do not enter ₹0 because you have not checked a line. Mark it “unknown” and resolve it. An unknown detour or toll is not a free detour or toll. PPAC’s official fuel-price section links to current state retail selling price information from the oil marketing companies. IHMCL provides the official National Highway fee-plaza list. Use current information for the actual route rather than a remembered number from another city.
The ShipdeHop parcel calculator can organise the contribution and expenses. It is a planning tool, not a promise of profit, a live route match or a completed handoff.
| Worksheet line | Your input | Evidence to check |
|---|---|---|
| Agreed parcel contribution | ₹____ | Written agreement between sender and traveller |
| Extra pickup distance or fare | ₹____ / ____ km | Actual pickup point and route |
| Extra drop-off distance or fare | ₹____ / ____ km | Actual final handoff point |
| Added fuel | ₹____ | Added kilometres, vehicle efficiency and current local fuel price |
| Added toll | ₹____ | Actual revised route and fee plaza |
| Parking | ₹____ | Handoff location rule or receipt |
| Traveller-paid packing | ₹____ | Only if traveller agreed to buy it |
| Other agreed parcel-only expense | ₹____ | Name it before collection |
| Net contribution | ₹____ | Contribution minus every parcel-caused expense above |

ShipdeHopMeasure the detour before pricing it
A contribution worksheet is only as useful as the route behind it. Put the original journey and the parcel version side by side. Record the added distance, added travel time, pickup waiting window and drop-off waiting window.
Google Maps’ official trip-planning guidance recommends checking when to leave, expected traffic, route choices and disruptions. Use the current route for planning, then follow actual signs and traffic rules on the road. A map estimate is not a fixed arrival time.
Do not hide time inside the money calculation. A parcel may add little fuel expense but create forty minutes of waiting. The net contribution can be positive while the arrangement still makes no sense for the traveller’s schedule.
| Route check | Original journey | With parcel | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Distance | ____ km | ____ km | + ____ km |
| Expected travel time | ____ min | ____ min | + ____ min |
| Pickup waiting | 0 min | ____ min | + ____ min |
| Drop-off waiting | 0 min | ____ min | + ____ min |
| Toll or parking events | ____ | ____ | + ____ |
| Fixed connection at risk? | No / Yes | No / Yes | Proceed only if acceptable |
Do not convert responsibility into a fake hourly wage
A traveller can compare the remaining contribution with the added time, but this is not a salary calculator. CarPool and parcel carrying on ShipdeHop are built around existing journeys and cost sharing. They are not a promise of employment, a fixed wage or assured earnings.
Still, time has value. Write the added minutes and ask whether the arrangement is worth accepting. Also count the responsibility: knowing the contents, keeping the parcel within agreed handling conditions, coordinating two handoffs and refusing unsafe or unclear changes.
The earn-money page explains the available ways to save or receive contributions without pretending every match produces income. Availability, route fit and the people’s agreement still decide whether anything can happen.
Choose accept, revise or decline
Once the worksheet is complete, use one of three outcomes. Accept means the parcel fits the journey, the added expenses are known, the remaining contribution is acceptable and both handoffs are clear. Revise means one or more details can be improved before collection. Decline means the arrangement is not a compatible use of the trip.
Do not negotiate after collecting the parcel if the detour, toll or parking was visible before collection. Equally, the sender should not be surprised by a new expense that the traveller could have checked earlier. Clear numbers protect both people from an awkward conversation at the worst possible moment.
| Outcome | Use when | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Accept | Costs, time, contents, space and handoffs are confirmed | Save the agreement and reconfirm before departure |
| Revise | A detour, expense, timing detail or contribution is unresolved | Change the handoff point, timing, packing responsibility or contribution |
| Decline | The parcel does not fit the route, space, timing, safety or responsibility | Do not collect it. Choose another journey or suitable service |
Run the safety check after the cost check
A positive number does not make an unsuitable parcel acceptable. Confirm the contents, packed dimensions, weight, sender, recipient and meeting points. The traveller must be comfortable carrying the disclosed item within the available space.
Use the safety and handoff guidance before collecting anything. Aadhaar identity verification can help establish identity. It does not inspect the parcel, guarantee behaviour or replace a contents check.
If the parcel, person or location differs materially from the agreement, pause. Recalculate if the route changes. Decline if the contents or responsibility are unclear. No contribution is worth accepting an arrangement you do not understand.
Copy this before accepting the parcel
Send this: “I am already travelling from [origin] to [destination] on [date]. The parcel pickup adds approximately [km/minutes] and the drop-off adds [km/minutes]. The agreed contribution is ₹[amount]. Confirmed parcel-only expenses are [list]. My estimated net contribution after those expenses is ₹[amount]. Pickup is [place/window], drop-off is [place/window], and my maximum wait is [minutes]. I will reconfirm if the route, expense, parcel or handoff changes.”
Then ask the sender to confirm the same version. If an expense is unknown, do not bury it. Mark it unknown and decide who will check it before collection.
Zero commission should make the calculation cleaner, not disappear the calculation. ShipdeHop keeps none of the agreed contribution as platform commission. The traveller should still know what the parcel genuinely adds, what remains and whether the connection is worth making.
What remains after extra expenses?
Change the amounts to match your proposed arrangement. Include every relevant expense.
Questions, answered
Does ShipdeHop charge commission for carrying a parcel?
No. ShipdeHop takes zero platform commission, now and always. The traveller may still have parcel-caused expenses such as an added detour, toll, parking or local fare.
Should the sender pay for the traveller’s entire journey?
No. The useful calculation separates costs the traveller would pay anyway from additional costs caused by the parcel. Only the added parcel-related expenses belong in this worksheet.
How do I calculate the net parcel contribution?
Start with the agreed contribution and subtract added fuel or fare, added toll, parking, traveller-paid packing, pickup expense, drop-off expense and any other agreed parcel-only cost.
Is carrying parcels on ShipdeHop a dependable income source?
No. It is cost sharing around an existing journey, not an assurance of employment, profit or route availability. The traveller decides whether a compatible parcel and contribution make sense.
Where should I check fuel and toll costs?
Use current official or operator information for the actual route. PPAC links to state retail fuel-price information, while IHMCL provides National Highway fee-plaza resources.
What if the parcel detour changes after collection?
Pause and reconfirm the route, extra expense, timing and handoff. If the revised arrangement is not acceptable or clear, follow the agreed fallback rather than improvising.
