To send clothes within India, identify the garments, check the chosen service's acceptance and packaging rules, then weigh and measure the finished parcel. Protect dry clothing from moisture and separate delicate details. Compare the complete charge and receiving arrangements, not only a per-kg rate. Parcel pooling is an option only when a willing traveller accepts the actual parcel and both handoffs.
A few T-shirts, a saree for a family occasion and half a winter wardrobe are all clothes. They are not the same parcel. The useful question is not just who will take the bag. It is what needs to arrive, in what condition, and by when.
For a student sending clothes to a hostel, a family sending a garment to another city or a pre-loved seller completing a sale, I would start with the contents and the receiver. The box comes after that.
I checked official India Post and DHL packing information, alongside ShipdeHop's current product pages, on 7 November 2026. This guide is for journeys within India. DHL's apparel guide is used for packing principles, not as evidence that its international express service is a domestic delivery option.
Choose the clothes before choosing the shipping service
Separate the parcel into things the recipient actually needs and things you are sending because there is still space. An extra jacket can change the package's size even when the original reason for sending was one shirt.
Write a short contents list. Name the type and quantity, and identify any delicate stitching, beads, structured shape or special care requirement. For a pre-loved sale, make sure this is the exact garment and set of accessories agreed with the buyer.
Check pockets and remove unrelated items. A garment parcel should not accidentally become a shipment of keys, batteries, cash or cosmetics. If you deliberately want to include something else, check that item separately against the chosen service's rules.
My first filter is whether the clothes are ready to travel. They should be clean and dry before sealing. If a garment is damp, damaged in an undisclosed way or needs a specialist packing method you have not arranged, pause rather than hoping the delivery journey will sort it out.
Decide which service fits the deadline and the parcel
India Post's current retail-parcel page says that the service ordinarily travels by surface and requires compliant packaging. It also requires a declaration. Confirm the applicable product, acceptance and delivery estimate for the actual origin and destination rather than treating every postal service as identical.
For a courier quote, give both PIN codes, the contents and finished package details. Ask whether pickup and delivery are included, what estimate applies and which exclusions or claim terms matter. A general website headline cannot confirm your particular shipment.
Parcel pooling follows a different model: an appropriate parcel joins somebody's existing journey by agreement. The sender, traveller and recipient must be ready for the two handoffs. It is not a courier network with a guaranteed departure whenever you need one.
Use this shortlist to decide what to investigate. If the recipient needs a garment for a fixed event, consider the consequence of delay before choosing a lower quote or an unconfirmed journey.
| Option | What to verify | When to reconsider |
|---|---|---|
| Postal parcel service | Correct postal product, packing acceptance and current estimate | The estimate does not fit the actual need |
| Courier service | Serviceable PIN codes, packed size, full quote and scope | Required handling or timing is not confirmed |
| Existing-traveller arrangement | Willing traveller, actual capacity and both handoffs | Any person, place or time window remains unresolved |

A T-shirt and an embellished saree need different packing decisions
DHL's apparel packing guide distinguishes non-fragile garments from fragile clothing. It discusses suitable sealed flyer bags or boxes for non-fragile items, separating garments and using a correctly sized package. Fragile clothing requires more protective treatment. These principles do not replace your chosen domestic service's rules.
For everyday cotton clothing, fold neatly and use an inner covering suitable for moisture protection. Confirm whether the chosen service accepts the proposed outer mailer or requires a carton. A shopping bag with handles is not automatically a shipping package.
For embroidery, beads or parts that can snag, avoid pressing the delicate surface against another garment. Protect the detail separately and ask about specialist packing where necessary. Do not compress a structured outfit just to force it into a smaller price bracket.
DHL's guide also warns that box orientation cannot be guaranteed in its network. I would not build a general garment plan around an arrow keeping a dress upright. Ask how the piece can be protected through ordinary handling.
For a valuable or irreplaceable garment, establish acceptance and the actual protection or claim terms before dispatch. A careful fold does not create insurance, and a fragile label does not make an unsuitable package suitable.
| Garment type | Preparation decision | Question before sealing |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday shirts and trousers | Dry, folded and protected inside an accepted outer package | Does the chosen service accept this bag or box? |
| Embellished or delicate clothing | Separate details and arrange suitable protection | Does it need specialist materials or handling? |
| Bulky jackets or multiple outfits | Choose a right-sized strong package | What are its finished dimensions and weight? |
| Pre-loved sale | Record the agreed garment and known defects | Does the parcel match what the buyer accepted? |

Measure the parcel you will actually hand over
Clothing can be light but bulky. Give the provider the finished outer length, width and height in cm, plus the packed weight in kg. Include the packaging, not just the garments.
Ask how the selected service calculates chargeable weight. Do not assume that a per-kg rate applied to the clothes on your kitchen scale is the total. Different service products and packaging choices need their own quote.
DHL's general packing guidance says to select packaging for the contents, seal seams properly and display labels clearly. Its advice is another reason to settle the actual package before comparing prices, rather than obtain a quote for one size and hand over another.
Choose a package that protects the clothes without unnecessary empty space. Do not overstuff until the seams are under strain. If the package changes, update the measurements and quote before agreeing to collection.
There is no universal price for sending a saree or a bundle of clothes in this article. Distance, product, packed details and the selected service scope all need confirmation. A precise quote request is more useful than a confident number that belongs to somebody else's parcel.

Compare the complete sending cost without turning it into homework
Keep it to one note on your phone: delivery charge or traveller contribution, packaging, any packing assistance and the trips needed for pickup or receipt. Add applicable taxes or extras shown in the actual quote. Do not quietly leave a counter drop-off journey out of one option.
You do not need to value every minute in rupees. Just recognise whether one arrangement needs a long trip, repeated coordination or a receiving person to wait somewhere. A cheap quote can still be inconvenient for the person getting the clothes.
The parcel cost-planning tools can hold your own amounts if helpful. Use confirmed quotes, not the website's example figures as evidence of what you will save.
ShipdeHop takes zero commission, now and always. A willing traveller's contribution, packaging and collection costs may still exist. Compare that complete arrangement with the complete alternative, rather than comparing commission alone with a courier bill.
If you are sending clothes because of a sale, agree who pays for packaging and delivery before the garment leaves. If a return or changed plan is possible, clarify the responsibilities with the other person. Do not invent a refund policy from a conversation that never happened.

Make the garment and the two handoffs clear
For a traveller arrangement, disclose the contents and let the traveller assess what they are accepting before sealing as appropriate. Agree how the parcel will be opened for that check and resealed without damaging the clothes.
Use the parcel safety checks to separate identity from contents and handoff confirmation. Aadhaar verification does not inspect the garment or guarantee delivery. Authentication codes and login links stay private, and handoff confirmation belongs at the actual exchange.
Confirm the recipient can receive at the agreed place and time. A hostel address alone does not tell you whether the resident, office or reception can accept this parcel. Ask before sending, and agree what happens if the original plan changes.
For a sale, keep a private record of the actual garment, any disclosed wear and what went inside. Take exterior packaging photos before handover. Do not publish a recipient's address, label or identity document to prove that you packed carefully.
Keep the responsibility specific: who packs, who releases, who carries and who receives. If a new item or recipient is substituted, review the arrangement. Clothes being soft does not make an unknown parcel acceptable.

Copy this clothes-parcel brief before asking for a quote
Use this: 'I want to send [garment types and quantities] from [origin PIN code] to [destination PIN code]. The special care details are [embroidery, structure or none]. The outer package is [description], measures [length × width × height in cm] and weighs [kg]. Please confirm acceptance, required packing, the full charge, delivery scope and current estimate.'
Then add the human detail: 'The sender can hand over during [window]. The recipient can receive during [window] at [agreed type of place]. Please confirm the procedure if the original receiving plan cannot be completed.' Share private addresses only through the appropriate booking or agreed channel.
For ParcelPool, also describe the proposed meeting points and what space the prepared parcel takes. Use the ParcelPool planner to organise the details, then check current app options. A browser draft is not an accepted shipment, live matching, booking or payment.
Check current product availability before committing. The website lists iPhone access and Android updates, while production payment collection and escrow remain disabled. It cannot confirm a traveller or promise that the clothes will arrive before an event.
I want the recipient to get the clothes they expected, not a surprise bundle with a delivery problem attached. Decide the contents, protect what needs protection and make the receiving plan as clear as the sending one.

Questions, answered
Can I send clothes to another city in India?
Check the selected service's acceptance, packaging and declaration requirements for the actual garment parcel and PIN codes. Postal, courier and agreed traveller arrangements have different processes. Do not treat a category name as confirmation that a particular parcel is accepted.
Can I send clothes in a plastic bag?
An inner protective covering and the accepted outer package do different jobs. Some garment guidance allows suitable sealed shipping mailers for non-fragile clothes, but the chosen service may require a box or other packaging. Confirm before dispatch.
How much does it cost to courier clothes?
Get a current quote using both PIN codes, packed dimensions, weight, contents and required service. Include packaging, pickup or counter travel, receipt arrangements and applicable extras. There is no single reliable per-garment price.
How should I send an embroidered or delicate outfit?
Explain the fragile details before booking and arrange suitable separate protection or specialist packing. Do not rely on compression or an upright label to protect a structured garment. Check acceptance and the actual claim terms for valuable pieces.
Can ShipdeHop send my clothes the same day?
Only an actual accepted arrangement can establish whether the timing fits. Parcel pooling needs a willing traveller, suitable capacity and both handoffs. The website planner does not confirm matching, booking or same-day delivery.
