Choose Cashify if you want a managed quote, inspection and pickup process, subject to its current eligibility and final assessment. Choose a direct buyer if you want to negotiate the sale yourself and can handle enquiries, testing and handover. Compare accepted offers for the same disclosed phone condition, not an online estimate against a hopeful listing price.
Your old phone can fund part of the next trip, the next device or simply a less crowded drawer. The useful question is not which app has the loudest promise. It is which selling route fits the phone you actually have and the work you are willing to do.
I would not compare a managed buyback estimate with the highest asking price in a marketplace search. One still needs assessment. The other still needs a buyer. Neither number is automatically money in your account.
This guide is for a student or young professional in India choosing between Cashify and a person-to-person sale. The product details below were checked on 29 October 2026. No live phone valuation, completed sale or resale premium is assumed.
Cashify versus peer-to-peer resale: what are you choosing?
Cashify describes a sequence of selecting the device, answering condition questions, arranging pickup and receiving payment. Its separate FAQ says physical inspection checks the device against the details supplied, and a mismatch can reduce the original quote. Check serviceability and the offered appointment for your address rather than assuming coverage from a city name.
OLX provides a useful example of the direct route. Its mobile-selling page describes posting device details and photos, setting a price, responding to buyers and negotiating the sale. That is different from receiving a managed buyback assessment. A buyer enquiry is not an accepted offer.
The table compares those published flows, not customer outcomes. ShipdeHop is another person-to-person marketplace option, not a Cashify-style diagnostic or guaranteed buyer. The practical distinction is who owns each job.
| Decision | Cashify's published flow | Direct buyer through a marketplace |
|---|---|---|
| Starting number | Quote based on device and condition answers | Your asking price and the buyer's offer |
| Condition review | Physical inspection against supplied details | Buyer and seller agree what to test |
| Negotiation work | Review the assessment and offered value | Handle enquiries, terms and meeting arrangements |
| Collection | Check current pickup or store options | Agree who collects and where |
| Completion | Confirm final amount and payment in the chosen flow | Confirm accepted terms, payment and handover |

A quote, an asking price and a sale price are three different numbers
A quote is an offer under stated conditions. An asking price is what a seller hopes to receive. A completed sale price is what the parties finally agree and actually settle. Comparing those numbers without their conditions produces a very confident answer to the wrong question.
Create one condition description before requesting offers. Keep the exact model, storage variant, visible damage, known faults, repair history and included accessories consistent. If you report a flawless screen in one place and disclose a crack in another, the offers are not comparable.
Cashify's inspection FAQ gives a specific reason a quote may change: the assessed condition, quality or warranty does not match the information supplied. That is not evidence that every quote changes. Equally, a direct buyer may revise an offer after seeing a fault that your listing missed.
Ask what changed, where it is visible and what amount is now being offered. Decide from the updated terms. Do not accept just because someone has already travelled to meet you, and do not hide a defect to preserve the original number. Awkwardness is a poor pricing policy.

Set three boundaries before your first enquiry
My preferred approach is an offer card with three boundaries: money, time and handover. This is a decision aid, not a claim that one channel always pays more. Fill it in privately before opening a listing or requesting a quote.
First, write the lowest final proceeds you would willingly accept after your own travel, packing or other agreed selling costs. Use actual quotes for those costs where needed. Do not automatically deduct a repair bill unless you have deliberately decided that repair is necessary for the sale.
Second, choose your deadline and the effort you will spend responding to buyers. Someone leaving Bengaluru for a holiday next week has a different constraint from someone happy to wait. A deadline is your planning limit, not a promise that any platform will complete the sale by then.
Third, define non-negotiable handover conditions. Examples include a visible meeting place, agreed tests, no sharing of personal login credentials and payment you can independently confirm. A larger offer does not cancel those boundaries.
| Boundary | Write down | What it prevents |
|---|---|---|
| Money | Minimum acceptable proceeds after your own costs | Accepting an attractive headline with unwanted expenses |
| Time | Last acceptable sale date and enquiry effort | Endless chats for a sale you no longer want |
| Handover | Inspection, data-removal and payment conditions | Improvised decisions under pressure |
Make the actual phone easy to assess
Remove the case for condition photos and show the front, rear, corners and camera area in ordinary light. Include a clear close-up of each defect. A phone hidden behind a perfect case invites a second conversation at the meeting.
Write a short description: model and storage, approximate age if known, visible wear, known functional problems, repair history you can honestly describe, included accessories and whether you have ownership evidence. Do not publish private account details or a full identifying document in the listing.
Separate something you observed from something you cannot certify. You can say a button responds or a camera opens when tested. Do not promise that the phone has never had an internal problem if you do not know its history.
For a direct sale, agree the requested checks in advance. A charged device and a suitable meeting arrangement make basic testing possible. If the buyer needs a specialist diagnosis, agree who provides it before making the appointment. Neither a friend's confidence nor an identity badge is a technical report.
- Use current photographs of this exact phone.
- Show defects without filters or concealment.
- State the precise model and storage.
- List included and missing accessories.
- Disclose known faults and repairs honestly.
- Agree any requested tests before meeting.

Plan data removal before the meeting, not after handing over
Your phone may also be your banking device, authenticator and recovery route. Before selling, check that essential data and access have moved successfully to a device you control. Do this while you still have time to fix a missing backup or sign-in problem.
Apple's current selling guide instructs owners to back up and transfer their information, sign out and erase the old device, with further steps depending on their setup. It also warns that manually deleting synced items while signed in can remove them from iCloud and connected devices. Follow the current guide for your software version rather than improvising.
For Android, Google's reset guidance says to back up first and use manufacturer-specific instructions. Its device-protection guidance explains that removing the Google Account turns off that protection. Check the correct account-removal and reset sequence for your phone before the sale.
Arrange how condition testing and your final data removal fit together. Keep control of the device and enter any necessary credentials yourself through the official flow. Do not give a buyer your account password to solve an activation problem later. If testing, reset or account removal cannot be completed properly, pause the handover.

Make payment and the handover one clear agreement
For a direct sale, agree the exact item, accessories, final amount, meeting place and completion sequence before the appointment. Keep a private record of the accepted condition and terms. If an undisclosed fault appears, resolve the changed agreement before proceeding.
OLX's current safety guidance warns about payment screenshots, requests for banking secrets and QR-code requests framed as receiving money. It tells users to check payment in their own bank account or payment app rather than trusting a screenshot or SMS alone. Use those checks wherever you meet a direct buyer.
If another person is collecting for the buyer, confirm their authority, the checks they will do and who approves any difference. The inspection-before-collection guide helps separate observation from technical judgement. A collector should not become the buyer's engineer by surprise.
End the meeting only when the agreed checks, data-removal steps and verified payment are complete and the correct phone and accessories can be handed over. If someone changes the device, amount, location or payment method unexpectedly, stop and review rather than trying to rescue the sale in a hurry.

Where ShipdeHop fits, and when a managed route makes more sense
ShipdeHop's second-hand marketplace connects people to buy and sell pre-loved items with zero commission, now and always. Its website lets you plan the item and collection. It does not turn that plan into a confirmed buyer, technical certification or guaranteed sale price.
The app includes Aadhaar identity verification. Our safety guidance is explicit about the limit: identity verification does not establish product authenticity or guarantee behaviour. That distinction matters as much for a phone as it does for furniture.
Start with the second-hand marketplace if you want to explore a person-to-person sale and can own the listing, evidence and agreement. The iPhone app is available and Android is coming soon, as stated on the current getting-started page. Website launch-update signup is separate from creating an app account.
If you prefer a managed assessment and pickup process, check Cashify's current eligibility, quote and terms for your device and address. That may be the better fit for you. My goal is not to make every old phone a ShipdeHop listing. It is to help you choose a route you can actually finish.
Keep the same condition description across your options, compare final accepted terms and protect the handover boundaries you chose. A useful sale is not the biggest number on a screen. It is an agreement you understand and are willing to complete.

Questions, answered
Does selling directly always pay more than Cashify?
No reliable universal premium can be assumed. Compare offers for the same model, storage, condition and accessories, then consider your own selling costs and effort. A marketplace asking price is not proof of a completed sale.
Can Cashify change the online quote after inspection?
Cashify's FAQ says the amount may be lower when physical inspection does not match the device details supplied. Ask about the assessed difference and final amount before completing the sale. This does not mean every quote changes.
Should I reset my phone before a buyer checks it?
Prepare your backup, account access and official reset instructions first. Agree how testing and final removal fit together while keeping control of the phone. Do not hand over personal data or share passwords, and pause if the required steps cannot be completed.
Can I sell a phone through ShipdeHop without commission?
ShipdeHop's marketplace is positioned as person-to-person selling with zero commission. You still need an actual buyer, an accurate condition description and an agreed inspection, payment and collection plan. No sale price or completion date is guaranteed.
What if a buyer sends a payment screenshot?
A screenshot is not enough to confirm receipt. Check your own bank account or payment app directly. Do not share an OTP, UPI PIN or banking login to receive a sale payment.
